I first became fascinated in the connection between the body and the mind during my studies in clinical psychology and psychosomatics, and explored further along this path in a very real sense when working as a carer for someone with a neurological condition. I was using basic massage techniques to help stimulate the nervous and muscular systems. This relieved pain, which meant that this person could stop taking high doses of painkillers and helped the re-growth of nerve connections as a result of which he could regain most of the abilities he had prior to being ill. It was a life-changing experience for both of us.
I went on to train in different techniques in Foot Reflexology, Facial Reflexology (Sorensensistem™), and Massage, and along the way I added postgraduate training in Reflexology for Children, babyreflex, Metamorphic Technique, Reiki, and Dowsing for Health. I continue to learn from inspiring teachers, fellow therapists and clients.
Two of the most important things I have learned, strongly believe in and share are:
1. We are able to make significant changes to our lives by using the internal resources we have been equipped with. This applies equally to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being.
2. Our willingness to take responsibility for our well being is the most crucial factor in creating it. This in itself can feel amazingly empowering.
I also enjoy learning from nature and its cycles and have a great interest in learning about the therapeutic properties of plants, herbs and food, and in growing them. I share this interest by being a volunteer at the Wildlife Garden in Regent’s Park.
